Every dog, regardless of age or ability, deserves a life filled with love and happiness. Sadly, many older dogs and dogs with disabilities are abandoned and neglected.
Not only are these dogs overlooked for adoption, but they also face the threat of euthanasia.
Fortunately, the puppy in today’s story escaped this fate thanks to a kind-hearted human who saw her true potential.
One of a Kind.
Greenacres Rescue shared a heartbreaking story on Facebook about a beautiful female spaniel puppy who was found abandoned in a car park.
“She was born with six legs and several other abnormalities,” the rescue shared in their post.
The rescue team took the puppy to the vet to diagnose her condition and develop a treatment plan, hoping to give her a normal life.
Mikey Lawlor from Greenacres Rescue told the Western Telegraph that they named the puppy Arie because someone thought she looked like a mermaid.
The staff at Greenacres Rescue was relieved to learn that Arie was healthy, despite her physical abnormalities. Her leg deformities could be corrected through surgery.
“Arie has an extra set of back legs and an underdeveloped pelvis due to an additional hip joint. After a month of recovery, the plan is to surgically remove the extra limbs and assess the functionality of her remaining legs,” the shelter explained.
New Chapter
After allowing her some time to relax and decompress, she did a lot of vet visits, scans, and specialist referrals so that her hoomans knew exactly what to do.
And, a couple of months later, Ariel was prepared for surgery.
The surgery was a success.
“She’s doing really well, she’s bounced back and she’s a happy little dog and we’re hoping she’s going to go on to lead a fabulous little life,” the surgeon who operated on the pup, Aaron Lutchman, told BBC.
Lawlor also stated that by the very next day, Ariel was up on her paws, exploring her surroundings. She was taken in by loving foster parents who made sure that her recovery journey went as smoothly as possible.
It came as no surprise when, in a matter of months, Ariel made a full recovery, making her more than ready to start a new chapter in her life – finding a family.
